Robin Woywitka and the Super 92 with the Trevor Tchir Band Live at the Haven!
The Super 92 is in fine form this spring season. We even knocked the electricity out in our underground lair! But not to fret, we conjured the voltage back using our soul power and a screwdriver.
Exciting new gig coming up too! We’ll be double billing with the Trevor Tchir Band at the Haven Social Club on May 19! Trevor’s put out several albums, all to rave reviews. He’s toured the country, lived in Ottawa and has a PhD. Not bad for a fellow from St. Albert, Alberta, Canada! Come on down to the Haven and enjoy a slice of pizza pie, your favourite tipple and some great music!
When: Saturday, May 19, 2012. Doors at 8pm. Tix $10 in advance (yeglive.ca) or $12 at the door.
Where: Haven Social Club, 15120 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, AB
Can’t wait to see you there!

Beyond 42 – Science, Stories and Music
Robin and the Super 92 will be providing the music for Beyond 42 – How science can use stories to explain life, the universe and everything. The event will be hosted by Bora Zivkovic, blog editor for Scientific American. Bora will discuss how story telling can be used to relay scientific information, and local scientists will share some of their stories.
Robin and the Super 92 will compliment the evening with story songs – a surprising number of which feature scientific themes or tidbits. Robin might even reveal one of the secret equations he employs while composing. Please join us at the Artery on Friday, March 9 for an entertaining and enlightening evening.

Alberta Roots ‘n’ Roll Revue – Calgary a Great Success
We had a great turnout at the Ironwood last Friday! Thanks to everyone who came! Looks like we had a packed house of attentive and enthusiastic music fans. What more could we ask for?
Highlights of the night included a Ruminants/Magnolia Buckskin hootenany on Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” Trevor Tchir’s rendition of the northern Alberta classic “Smoky Lake Moon,” Wacoustas’s prog-roots masterpiece “Multiplicationing Fade” and the usual brilliance of the Super 92 rhythm section!
Thanks to the Ironwood for the great sound, food and atmosphere! If you ain’t been there yet – go now!

It will also be bassist Paul Farrant’s very last night in Edmonton before he jets off to Milwaukee for reasons that remain mysterious. Perhaps he will reveal his motives on that fateful eve? Regardless, the band is going to rip it up and send Paul off in hard rockin’ roots ‘n’ roll style!

By blending older blues and country forms with new rock and roll styling, Robin guides you on a brief visit to The Impossible Address.
Most of the album was recorded in two days at Delta Recording Service in Como, Mississippi, United States with producer Jimbo Mathus and engineer Justin Showah. Although Robin expected to finish a few songs during this session, he adapted quickly to Mr. Mathus’ frenetic pace and came out with nearly three quarters of the record. These songs were captured in the moment, with the rhythm and lead vocal tracks performed absolutely live. The results are warm in tone and record the inexplicable, surging excitement that Mr. Mathus infuses in all of his recordings.
The remainder of the record was recorded in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada by Scott Franchuk. Rhythm tracks were once again recorded live, this time with a jumpy, lock-tight section of Paul Farrant on bass and Mike Silverman on drums. The songs from this session are clearer and a little more intricate, with a pinch of surrealism thrown in for flavour.
The mixing of Mr. Mathus’ and Mr. Showah’s southern style with Robin’s Canadian cut raises some ghosts of The Band. However, the record also bears a peculiar pop rock shine reminiscent of R.E.M or Sloan, and will appeal to appreciators of both raw roots music and more measured modern folk rock.
